Behind every smooth and gentle mazurka, there is a dancer‘s rock-hard core; behind the vivid and graceful spinning, there is the strictest muscle control; behind the fast and precise kost ar c‘hoad, there is the ability to relax your upper body. There is no way around it, we are sorry. Except that we are not – instead, we asked your fellow dancers to share with you the exercises that did the trick for them. They‘ve got it covered, and so can you.

Contents

These are not typical dance classes, this is what should ideally precede or accompany those. Warming up, flexibility training, gaining muscle strength and control, stretching, improving body awareness… In other words, the crucial ingredients of dancing for which there is never enough time in classes.

We‘ve got six dancers to lead you through the exercises that they find beneficial and that you can do at home while waiting to come back to the dance floor. By offering you ten classes led by six dancers (that‘s roughly two classes per teacher), we are bringing you the diversity of topics and attitudes that will allow you to cherry-pick what will help you the most. Everyone is unique, so follow all the lessons and compile your own dance-boosting workout. You surely have your own favourite exercises – throw them in the mix. Oh, and you could share them with us, too, right? (More on this below.)

We will announce the content of each lesson beforehand on this page and by email. Stay tuned.

Teachers

You might already know them as your teachers, your fellow dancers, your friends. If not, take the first step now; the others might very well follow.

Goda Sungailaitė
Goda used to teach (preCovid era) traditional dances and Balfolk in Lithuania. She has a long-standing passion for spinning that may seem effortless, but has a knack to it. Recently turned into a yoga teacher, she is willing to compile and blend all previous knowledge into something that every dancer can benefit from.

Roberto Calzolari
A mountaineer, an arborist, an outdoor educator. But don‘t get misled – Roberto devotes as much attention to what is going on inside of the body as to the world outside of it, knowing that dancing requires both.

Aurora Cavazzin
The range of Aurora‘s dance experience is as wide as the range of her movement. With a contagious enthusiasm, she makes her students challenge their bodies and movement stereotypes; and also realize that small details are what makes all the difference.

Réka Livits
The variety of dance styles Réka is familiar with gave her an excellent idea of what is important for dancing in general. Plus her calm and accepting aura makes you feel at home in her company in about five seconds.

Line Kracht & Mara Senger
Both having started with balfolk at the age of 12, Line and Mara have 31 years of experience in total. Except from dancing and teaching together, they are working on their goal to make the balfolk scene more welcoming and diverse – for everyone.

You?
Maybe you also know some cool exercise or just a useful tip. And maybe it is exactly what your fellow dancer from, say, Sweden is missing in her life. It would be a shame not to share it, wouldn‘t it? Check out this event.

What will you need

  • your body
  • a bit of space (two square meters of space will do)
  • a mat, a chair, an elastic rubber band and slippery socks (for Goda’s lesson, if you want to make the best out of it)
  • a wall to lie by (for Aurora’s lesson)
  • and 5–6 canned beans (or whatever you like – it’s about the heavy cans you can stack up; for Roberto’s lesson)
  • if you want to ask questions during the lessons, make sure you have an account on Gmail

To ensure that only people with genuine interest will attend the live streaming, we kindly ask you to register and will send you the link to the video by email, together with payment details. Later on, all the videos will become freely accessible. You will find the registration form below.
